Drug Possession and Drug Dealing Charges

Criminal Defense for Drug Crime

If you are facing drug possession or trafficking charges, without an excellent criminal defense lawyer, chances of being convicted and going to jail are high. Nothing is more important than retaining an experienced attorney to defend against allegations and protect your rights. Skilled representation can often result in dropped or reduced charges, drug rehabilitation, community service, probation, and other alternatives to jail.

Illinois Drug Crime

At the Law Offices of Steven H. Mevorah & Associates, our drug crime lawyers have acquired expertise based on decades of experience handling drug cases. Drug allegations are prevalent in Illinois. According to the U.S. government, Chicago serves as a transportation hub and distribution center for drugs throughout the Midwest. Illinois has at times been ranked as the second highest state for incarceration for drug crime, which includes imprisonment for drug possession.

Drug Penalties

Some drug offenses fall under state jurisdiction and others fall under the federal justice system. In either case, penalties are severe. Penalties become harsher based on the type of drug, amount of drug possessed, and the type of activity involved–such as possession, manufacture, sale, distribution, or trafficking.

Illinois penalties begin at four years in jail for mere possession of small amounts of heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine and LSD, to name a few. Under federal law, first offense drug trafficking of cocaine is not less than five years and not more than 40 years.

Protect Your Rights through Trusted Legal Guidance

You do not have to become a victim of strict sentencing guidelines. At The Law Offices of Steven H. Mevorah & Associates, with offices in Lombard, Bloomingdale and Chicago, our attorneys employ constitutional defenses, such as illegal search and seizure; we effectively cross-examine police officers and informants to destroy their credibility, and use other strategies to launch a strong defense. We encourage you to contact us as soon as possible, even if you are only under investigation. Take advantage of our free consultation and allow us to get started right away preparing your defense. In many cases, if retained at the outset of a case, we can avoid indictment or trial.

"Perhaps the single greatest force behind the growth of the prison population has been the national 'war on drugs.' The number of incarcerated drug offenders has increased twelve-fold since 1980."—Human Rights Watch

"Arrests for drug law violations in 2008 are expected to exceed the 1,889,810 arrests of 2006. Law enforcement made more arrests for drug law violations in 2006 (13.1 percent of the total number of arrests) than for any other offense."—www.drugsense.com

'Thank you to [my attorney] and everyone else who provided me security and comfort in my case. I take into full consideration all the hard work you all have done. You all are extremely professional and sophisticated people.'
- K. R.

'I would like to thank you for handling my recent problem. Not being a person who frequents incidents with the authorities I felt it would be in my best interest to seek your assistance in the matter. I felt a whole lot better knowing I had representation. Not knowing what might develop in such matters can be nerve wracking and I especially didn’t know where this was all going. You certainly made me more comfortable with it. […] The system is what it is and now I am better informed as to how to handle such matters in the future. I have passed both your name and the firm’s name on to friends already, and should I ever need your services again, your number is always with me. Thank you again for all you’ve done for me, and thank your [paralegal], for her patience with me.'
- P. P.

'Steven H. Mevorah & Associates and [my attorney] did a perfectly amazing job in representing my son. He was very professional, personable and caring. The knowledge he brought to the courtroom was great and has helped in the finalization of my son’s case.'
- J. H.

'My thanks to the professionalism and the expeditious handling of my case within a crucial time frame. We had contacted a different Lawyer and had growing concern of the possible outcome of the case. With two days notice, [my attorney from Steven Mevorah & Associates] took time, late in his day, to meet with us. The direction [he] took was different than what the other attorney was taking, & amazingly the outcome could not have been better. Thank you. We feel very fortunate to have come across your firm […].'
- L. W.

'[Steven Mevorah & Associates] was the first law firm I ever had to retain. I left comfortable and cared for. I hope I never need to retain legal service again. But, if I do, I will return to Steven H. Mevorah & Associates.'
- J.H.
