Child support

Illinois Child Support Attorneys Serving Cook, DuPage, Lake, Kane and Will Counties

Issues of child support are often among the most contentious issues disputed in family law. In many cases, one party will feel as though either too much or too little financial  support for the child has been ordered. At the Mevorah Law Offices, our family law attorneys are experienced in negotiating child support from both sides of a case in divorces, issues of paternity and guardianship situations. We analyze each case individually to determine what level of child support is appropriate, and we work closely with our clients to maximize their benefits.

Determining Child Support Obligations in Illinois

Illinois statutes offer guidelines for calculating the child support obligation of a parent based primarily on net income. These guidelines, however, are influenced by numerous other factors including but not limited to:

  • Child custody issues
  • Number of children
  • Child care costs
  • Medical and educational expenses
  • Special needs of the child
  • Financial hardship of the parties
  • Modifications to Child Support Payments

If the financial circumstances of one or both parents changes after child support has already been determined, the orders can be modified. Post decree modifications typically require a substantial change in circumstances, however. For example, if the paying parent loses his/her job, that parent may be able to have child support payments reduced. Our team of family lawyers is experienced in working with child support modifications for both paying parents and child support recipients.

'In regard to my family law matter. I was very pleased with the job you did. Especially with keeping me in the loop; letting me know what is or was happening. Your hard effort to have things done and accomplished in a timely manner. Which proved to be the biggest challenge due to the delay from opposing council and his client’s refusal to cooperate. For that I commend you. Also for you returning my calls in a timely manor and really willing to work with me. Whether it was working out an affordable payment plan or setting up a meeting to go over battle plans […]. I am happy that you were able to get this matter taken care of for the time being. If needed I would not be reluctant to call on your services again.'

'First of all, I would like to thank God for all the things he’s done for me in the past. Secondly, I thank Steven H. Mevorah & Associates for helping me dissolve the case of my divorce. It was hard on my part, though my ex-husband gave me such a hard time to finalize the whole thing. And third, I would like to thank [my attorney] for the things he did for my husband; that he came here to the USA, because of his help & support. I wish [to thank] all the staff of Steven H. Mevorah & Associates for the excellent job they do for us and others. More power and God bless you all always. It was my pleasure and honor to recommend your company […] to any of my friends, family and coworkers…this is the best law office I’ve ever had that is fantastic and lovely…I mean it. I will never forget all the hard work you did for us. Again a million thanks.'

'My divorce itself was handled in Virginia, but during my very messy post-divorce proceedings in Illinois, my attorney was a rock star! He wisely walked me through various minefields, stayed cool, and helped me to keep my cool. I came out way ahead of where I thought I would on financial support, and my ex and I now even have a cordial relationship. Also so important, [my attorney] was very responsible when it came to billing. And I've had enough experience with attorneys to know what that does, and doesn't look like. I definitely got my money's worth with Steven Mevorah & Associates.'
    - B. H.

'[My attorney] took care of my Divorce. He was very helpful and always took my calls and answered all my questions. He kept me informed of what steps were next and everything went well. I felt in control with [my attorney] on my side.'
    - D. C.

'I had known [my attorney] for over 15 years and in that time I have recommended him too many friends for the careful and complete representation he provides while also providing the human understanding we all need during these trying times. He is not afraid to tell you both the positives and the negatives of any actions; he is completely familiar with all of the issues I have faced from divorce, to custody and support issues. I greatly appreciate that he has also provided representation for my disabled son, when it was needed. I will continue to recommend him to others and I wish him well in all future endeavors. '
    - J. D.

'I was a mother of three boys and getting divorced. I really didn’t know what to do, where to start or anything about divorce for that matter. [My attorney] and his assistant guided me, gave me options and choices. They educated me on laws and rights I had no idea about. Without them I don’t know where my children and I would be. Thanks to them I am divorced, happy and secure.'
    - M. B.

'I have retained [Steven Mevorah & Associates] services on several occasions with regards to divorce proceedings and subsequent follow up court matters in this regard. I appreciated the updates on where the court matters were at and was never left hanging, wondering what was going on. [Their] court demeanor is professional. [Their attorney’s] are willing to listen to you and act accordingly.'
    - D. L.

'My most recent need of Steve Mevorah & Associates was a case involving an order of protection. [My attorney] did a wonderful job of preparation. We were in contact often discussing all aspects of the facts pertaining to my case. I was very impressed with the meeting [we had], a day or two before the court date. We went step-by-step through what was going to happen, and we role-played prosecutor/defendant. I was prepared 100% for my court date. Needless to say, the Order was squelched, and as [my attorney] mentioned, good may come of it. I am now talking with my ex-wife about visitation with my kids. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you all!!'
    - R. N.

'We wanted to thank you for all your help. Your support helped us get through a difficult time and we really appreciate it.'
