For a single person, it means that there are less than $3000 in assets not including the house and one car. If another person is paying rent, the SSI benefits are less.

SSDI claims can be filed online at www.ssa.gov. SSI claims or a claim for both SSI and SSDI must be filed at your local social security office, or you can call SSA at 1-800-772-1213.
