School Bus Accident Shakes the District

Posted on September 08, 2013 in Personal Injury

You don't have to be a parent to empathize with the horror that the parents of the Nauvoo-Colusa district experienced when learning that there was a school bus accident. In recent news, a school bus was struck by a car at an intersection of County Rd. The 75 year-old bus driver reportedly failed to yield, resulting in a car crashing into the side of the school bus. The impact of the car caused the bus to overturn. The bus driver was cited by the Illinois State Patrol for causing a car accident between the school bus and the other vehicle, according to WGEM.com. The school superintendent realized that the school district was shaken, but stated he was grateful that the accident wasn't worse. All seven students and the bus driver were taken to the hospital, and it is reported that the bus driver and two student injuries were serious. The 37 year-old driver of the car and her two passengers were also taken to the hospital. Certainly, the parents of the children with no major injuries are grateful and may consider the matter over. However, in a car accident, injuries can manifest later. That's why it is important to seek medical attention even if a person doesn't appear to be injured in a crash. Because school buses don't usually have seat belts, the majority of the occupants of the bus were fortunate to be able to walk away without serious injuries. However, there is no way of knowing whether or not being thrown around in an overturned bus will cause neck or back injuries later. If your child has been in an Illinois bus accident or other type of motor vehicle accident due to the negligence of another, don't hesitate to contact a skilled personal injury attorney. You may be eligible for compensation that could help offset medical expenses.
